Secure and reliable electronic identities are important requirements for orderly and legally valid electronic commerce between organisations, public authorities, customers, and citizens.
When a natural person conducts legally valid electronic commerce according to law, their contract partners must be able to confirm that the correct person is signing the contract (authenticity) and that the data in the contract has not been changed after the signing process (integrity).
According to circumstances, it may also be necessary to validate signature authorities and professional titles.
With the use of SuisseID and the buildup of authorisation registers the Swiss Confederation, under the Secretary of State for Commerce SECO, will close this gap by 2010. It will create a legally binding link between a natural person and their roles and authorisation inside a company or other judicial corporations. The planning and implementation will be done in close cooperation with the existing certificate service providers, the Federal Office of Statistics which is advancing the corporate identification number UID, and the identity and access management support of the eCH association.
SuisseID now available at the QuoVadis SuisseID Shop. 
QuoVadis provide SuisseID now at the QuoVadis SuisseID Shop. The SuisseID system contains three elements:

electronic proof of identity in form of an advanced certificate;

qualified electronic certificate for legally binding electronic signatures; and
-
electronic proof of authority
The user can securely authenticate at an online service as well as sign a legally binding document. When needed, the authorisation register provides the needed transparency between the participants, (e.g. full authority, affiliations to associations, professional register, etc.).
Every natural person can obtain a SuisseID from QuoVadis. The Swiss Confederation will subsidise the first SuisseID orderers with up to 80% of the purchase price. In total, there is an amount of CHF 17 million in direct subsidies allocated.
