Safe and reliable electronic identities are important prerequisites for legally binding electronic transactions between companies, authorities, customers, employees and citizens. SuisseID provides a key solution to this need.

Safe and easy authentication
With the help of SuisseID, users can authenticate safely and easily in a web service or online service. Different user names and passwords are a thing of the past. The electronic proof of function can also provide transparency into users' roles and responsibilities (eg, signing authority, powers of attorney, membership of associations, professional registers, etc.).

Just as binding as a signature by hand
Signatures are used to link documents to a specific person and also to sign legally. The electronic signature does the same. When a natural person wants to make transactions electronically binding, the other party must be able to rely on the fact that the signatory person has signed (authenticity) and that the data was not changed after the signing (integrity). SuisseID enables legally binding digital signatures, as defined by the Swiss signature law (ZertES).

The federal council of Switzerland and SECO stand behind the SuisseID
In August 2009, the federal council of Switzerland decided to support the introduction of the SuisseID. Under the auspices of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO, the SuisseID was created as the first standardized product for a secure proof of identity in Switzerland. Transactions may be done by private individuals and employees of companies, or by companies themselves allowing transactions to be simply conducted at any time over the Internet. SuisseID creates a legally binding link between an individual and their roles and authority in companies and other legal entities.

Wide potential
The applications for the SuisseID holder will grow continuously. Many companies and institutions have already integrated the SuisseID into their applications. The current list of application vendors and IT service providers will be published regularly (www.suisseid.ch).

The great benefit of SuisseID is the high transaction security in electronic commerce, the legally valid electronic processing and the associated saving of time.

For SuisseID holder, this means:

• universal "key" for making business on the Internet 
• no more different usernames 
•  only a password (PIN code) for many logins 
•  maximum security (in accordance with Signature Law, ZertES) 
•  fully electronic business processes are possible (even internationally) 
•  e-mails are trustworthy and capable of proof 
•  contracts and orders can be completed electronically 
•  legal certainty

SuisseID is available in the QuoVadis SuisseID Shop
QuoVadis provides the SuisseID in the QuoVadis SuisseID Shop. The SuisseID contains three elements: 

• electronic credential in the form of an advanced certificate 
• qualified electronic certificate for a legally valid electronic signatures 
• electronic proof of function

The standard QuoVadis SuisseID comes as a set, comprising the highly secure smart card which holds the certificates and a practical and handy reader in the form of a USB token or a smart card reader.

Any natural person may buy a QuoVadis SuisseID. QuoVadis offers companies and institutions the ability to order the SuisseID according to their own needs. So it is possible to combine the SuisseID with corporate ID cards (with photo) or other functions (e.g. for RFID access control).

The following issuance processes are available to the customer to choose from: 

1. Individual order in the web shop
   The applicant orders personally in our web shop. The order will be paid directly by credit card, the application forms will be sent by e-mail. The identity verification happens at one of our individual identity verification points (Town Hall, mobilezone Shop, notary's office, SBB Change/Western Union, Swiss Post "Yellow Identification", Schweizerischer KMU Verband SKV).
    
2. Individual orders with central clearing
   Each person will receive an order number and orders the SuisseID personally through our web shop. The order number bypasses the credit card payment. The billing is then made based on the numbers at the agreed price.
   The identity verification can be made individually in one of our identity verification points or centrally by the company itself (e.g. human resources).
    
3. Central order with central clearing
   The person responsible for the SuisseIDs in the company transfers all necessary application data in a spreadsheet provided by QuoVadis. Filled in, signed and attached with the passport / ID copies of every SuisseID user, the spreadsheet will be sent to QuoVadis by the company. The identity verification will be performed within the company, based on an additional agreement. The SuisseIDs will be delivered directly to the future SuisseID owners. Billing will be made centrally to the company at the agreed terms.
